Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
