Micky van de Ven scored twice as Tottenham extended their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and delivered the Toffees their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at the dockside location, having left Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman struck twice from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to put their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were failed to mount a comeback before the midfielder - set up by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - nodded in a third to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender thought he had levelled the scores a short while after the defender's opener, directing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

Beto, meanwhile, missed a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of excellent stops to guarantee the London club went five matches on the road unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee intervened, instructing Craig Pawson to review the goal on the screen and the referee decided that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in offside positions and had interfered with the Spurs keeper.

This victory moves Thomas Frank's side into third place in the division, five points off local foes and table-toppers the Gunners.

The Merseyside club remain 14th and are six points clear of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven excels in duties at each end of the field

After a drab midweek performance in the Champions League against the French side, where they mustered a only two shots on goal, the manager opted for the French striker in attack instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The summer signing was unable to make much of an impact before being substituted for the substitute after 60 minutes on the field, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the end.

Centre-back the Dutchman transformed into an attacking force to be feared.

Spurs' first goal came from a well-worked set-piece play, with the midfielder directing the ball toward the six-yard box for an free Van de Ven to head home.

And Ven de Ven - stepping up as captain in Cristian Romero's unavailability - notched his second in added time as he outjumped the England keeper to nod in.

Van de Ven was equally outstanding in defensive duties, combining well with Kevin Danso as the duo dealt excellently with the 34 crosses sent their way by Everton.

Everton analysis: Everton lacking finishing touch

Everton's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it seems the freshness may have worn off slightly and fans headed to the exits after the midfielder's third for Tottenham.

The end in Everton's unbeaten home run won't be a major worry for David Moyes, but their striker situation will be.

Beto and the other striker - the Toffees' pair of established centre-forwards - had scored just one league goal combined before the weekend's match.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable tally on a wet and gloomy evening on in Liverpool.

The striker's form was epitomized when he chose to overhead kick a golden opportunity from close range, even with having space and time to reposition for a simpler attempt that would have tested the keeper.

The substitute, too, was unable to make an impact after replacing Beto in the second half.

It was not for a lack of opportunity. Most of Everton's attacks came through Grealish and the forward, who relentlessly whipped threatening crosses into the Spurs penalty area.

Everton: Moyes' men travel to Sunderland in the top flight on Monday, 3 November at 20:00 GMT.

Spurs: The London club go to Newcastle's ground on late October for their fourth-round League Cup match against Newcastle.
